VADODARA: An assistant engineer of Waghodiya taluka panchayat used to be imprisoned for seven years on Monday for accepting Rs 1,500 bribe in November 2011.

Vasudev Chandratre, who used to be working within the integrated rural construction branch of the panchayat, used to be caught in a lure laid via anti-corruption bureau on November 15, 2011. Complainant Kanti Vasava, who used to be a beneficiary of Indira Awaas Yojana, used to be requested to give bribe for clearing his govt grant of Rs 45,000. Vasava used to be then sarpanch of Motabharda village and had constructed his house in June 2010 on a land given via govt beneath the scheme.

After the construction of the house, he approached Chandratre several times for clearing his grant amount. Chandratre inspected Vasava’s house however stored dilly dallying in clearing the amount. After repeated pleading via Vasava, Chandratre requested him to give Rs 2,000 cash. Vasava gave him Rs 500 and informed him that he'll the pay final amount of Rs 1,500 after few days.

Vasava then informed the ACB which laid a lure in Chandratre’s place of job. Chandratre used to be then tried within the additional periods court located at Savli and used to be convicted on Monday.

The court of extra periods judge D J Mehta also fined Chandratre of Rs 10,000.
