NEW DELHI: Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani has despatched a stern caution to workers that sexual harassment will not be tolerated within the airline and the ones guilty of doing so will be very sternly handled. Lohani’s "zero tolerance" caution came days after an AI captain accused any other instructor-commander of the same airline of harassment.

“It is shameful that sexual harassment cases are being incessantly witnessed in Air India. We need to come down very, very closely on such offenders,” says Lohani’s message to workers despatched on Thursday.


This caution came after the girl captain’s complaint of being confused on May 5, 2019, in Hyderabad during coaching by way of the trainer. AI has ordered a probe into the problem. TreadDailyNews had front-paged this issue in its Wednesday (May 15) edition.

AI ED (operations) captain R S Sandhu issued a circular on Thursday evening. “In the recent past, a shameful sexual harassment case has come to gentle, which is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. AI is dedicated to running environments that admire the inherent dignity of all persons, affording them the chance to achieve their fullest doable and empowering them to ship the best possible results for all the people that Air India serves,” captain Sandhu’s circular said.

“Every person has the suitable to be handled with dignity and admire, and to paintings in secure environments free from harassment, abuse, and discrimination. Every AI worker also has a corresponding responsibility to actively promote such an atmosphere,” it provides.


“AI is dedicated to a zero-tolerance strategy to sexual harassment. (that) will not be tolerated beneath any circumstances. This implies that any stories of sexual harassment will be handled promptly, justly, sternly and closely, in line with the acceptable procedures of AI,” captain Sandhu warns.


In her complaint, the girl captain says the trainer reportedly recommended the 2 have dinner at a city eating place after the learning consultation used to be over in Hyderabad on May 5. “…He began with telling me how depressed and unhappy he used to be in his married life… He also requested me how I coped with my husband residing away and whether or not I didn’t need to have sex on a regular basis…. I instructed him I didn't need to speak about all this and referred to as a cab,” the complaint says.


Captain Sandhu’s circular says sexual harassment will come with any of the next unwelcome acts or behaviour whether or not at once or by way of implication: physical contact and advances; a requirement or request for sexual favours; making sexually colored remarks; appearing pornography and some other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal habits of sexual nature.
